East Brent Parish Council

Low Cost Housing

Issues regarding Housing are the responsibility of Sedgemoor District Council.  The Parish Council work with Sedgemoor and consults on local housing issues.

In July 2010 we undertook an Affordable Housing Consultation Event at The Village Hall.  This event followed Housing Needs survey for East Brent which was commissioned in May 2008.

Following this work, two sites were identified and a housing provider identified, South West Housing Society.

These sites have now been completed.  They are:

Clare Court, Pill Lane, Rooksbridge

The Site comprises 6 low cost houses for rent.  Further details maybe obtained from South West Housing Society via the Homefinder Somerset website.

Toomers Close, Brent Road, East Brent

The site comprises 4 low cost houses for rent, Further details maybe obtained from South West Housing Society via the Homefinder Somerset website.

Affordable Housing – The Future

Affordable housing will continue to be an issue in local communities. The future build of Affordable Housing in the parish will be based upon the needs of the local community – it is therefore important for local people to register their need.

Details of how to register can be found on links below.

If your housing need is urgent, you can speak to a Sedgemoor Housing advisor on 0845 408 2540.

Sedgemoor District Council also hold a weekly Housing Advice surgery at the Princess Hall, Burnham on Sea every Wednesday. There are drop-in sessions from 9.30am to 12.30pm and appointments only from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Affordable Housing – Going Forward

Further to the success of these 2 developments and another housing survey needs that has been carried out in 2012, it is clear more affordable property is required in the area.

Subsequent to the above, the Southwestern Housing Society completed more homes on the existing Pill Road, Rooksbridge location.

With the completion of this development, and with the generosity of Mr & Mrs Gilling, the Parish Council was able to install a children's play area at the same location.

If you do have a need for Affordable housing please do register your need.
